about
ASB spending is always a hot topic on campus. How ASB is allowed to spend its money is governed by California Law. ASB is not allowed to spend money on classroom supplies (such as new computers, art supplies, theater supplies, sports equipment, etc.), teacher/staff salaries (we can’t save a teacher/staff member from layoffs), school improvement projects (such as new fields, new buildings, repairs to existing structures or landscaping, etc), or programs (such as athletics, Envision, Conservatory, etc). We also are not responsible for the vending machines on campus, food services, or any of the educational programs present at CCA.
However, ASB can spend its money on its student body for extra-curricular activities. We are allowed to pay for referees at sporting events. Did you know that ASB contributes 15k a year to the referees used at CCA? That’s over 75K in the past 5 years! We can help pay for supplies and equipment needed for Envision/Conservatory extra-curricular events (like theater productions, art shows, etc). Did you know ASB contributes 15k to the Envision/Conservatory program at CCA? That’s over 30k in the past 2 years!
In addition, ASB is the organization responsible for all of the school dances, which includes the yearly homecoming, winter formal, spring dance, and prom. ASB also organizes the annual senior week of activities. These events are all quite expensive, but with our fundraising throughout the year, we do our best to keep the costs down for our students. Did you know that the first week you buy a ticket for a dance or senior week, ASB barely breaks even? The longer you wait, the more it costs, and that’s where our fundraising kicks in!
How does ASB decide how to spend its money? YOU tell us at the monthly House of Representatives! We also discuss events and how to spend money at our weekly meetings.
We also always welcome your input! Have an opinion on how we should spend our funds? Tell us about it!
